Abrasion

 ]

This method can be used to test the wear resistance of surfaces and coatings. Two rollers covered with emery paper rub against the rotating surface of the specimen and, by varying the grain size and the contact pressure, it is possible to simulate different degrees of loading. The data obtained from this test can normally only be transposed to the real part if the test conditions tally with those encountered in practice. The test method is otherwise intended for a comparative assessment of different materials. The abrasion is specified in mm³, with allowance for the density of the test specimen.

TPU is considered to be the elastomeric material that offers the highest resistance to abrasion under the conditions encountered in practice. This requires the granules to have been dried sufficiently prior to processing.
