On the BMW 3, 5 and 7 series, the trays on the central console are injection molded in a rigid/flexible combination by the overmolding process. The flexible component of Desmopan® 487 is injected onto the rigid, high-impact and heat-resistant main component of Bayblend® (PC+ABS). The bond achieved between the two materials in the composite is excellent. This method is used to produce the tray surfaces, central console components and shutters on the interior parts referred to.

The surfaces and lining of the trays on the central console in flexible Desmopan® 487 deaden the noise that spectacles, keys or similar items would otherwise make when the car is travelling. A high coefficient of friction generally prevents objects from sliding around on the flexible component, even when the car is being driven around sharp curves.

Desmopan® 487 retains its high elasticity, scratch resistance and low compression set at both low and high temperatures over the entire service life of the vehicle.
